Social network amplification campaigns

Do you want a social media post with impact like this?

Shares? Likes? Getting your message seen?

You’ve slaved away at creating content for what seems like weeks. Bleary-eyed, worn out, and borderline crazy, you finally publish your latest social media post and breathe a sigh of relief. It is done. You have breathed life into the world (kinda) and unleashed your labors upon the internet (sorta, I guess).

Except nobody reads your post. The social share count hovers just a little above zero, like a vulture hungrily eyeing its prey, waiting patiently for it to die. What kind of cruel god could allow such a tragedy to unfold? What went wrong? What unseen, malevolent hand caused your post to fail?

In their analysis of more than 100 brand pages ad agency Ogilvy found that Facebook’s organic reach is just 6%, with large pages over 500,000 followers seeing just 2% reach. (Meaning, the bigger your brand, the more you’re being pressured toward paid content.) These numbers are rapidly in decline, having dropped almost 50%.

Nobody read your post? You didn’t amplify your content.

What is Social Amplification?

First off, let’s identify the difference between social distribution and social amplification. Amplifying your message through social implies more than just your brand promoting it through your own channels. A message is not truly amplified until it has been picked up and carried along the waves of social media.

Social distribution is your brand sharing your digital content on your channels. Amplification happens when your content is shared, either through organic or paid engagement, within social marketing channels thereby increasing your word-of-mouth exposure.

Amplification works by getting your message promoted (amplified) through influencers and brand fans. Each individual sharer extends your messaging to their personal network, who can then promote it to their network and so on. Depending on the amplifier or influencer who has shared your message, their reach could be a game-changer for the exposure of your content.

When done correctly, social amplification can build your brand’s authority in your industry. It also increases social signals and improves search engine optimization and of course, overall brand awareness.
